Guest Speakers Set During Rev Baker Absence
During Rev Gordon J Baker’s July vacation several guest preachers are slated for Sunday services. This week Rev Frank Gale of Bakersfield, retired China missionary, speaks at 11 a.m. on the topic Period. Next week Dr Gerald Larue of Berkeley will share duties. A large poultry house construction began in June 1936 on the D L Schellenberg ranch.

Display of Shafter art by local children this weekend
A sidewalk exhibit of work by twenty three local children ages five to thirteen will occupy Stringham's Shafter Drug Store windows this weekend. The displays include clay sculpture watercolors oil paintings and chalk pastels created in a four week summer class taught by Mrs. Hal Williams and Mrs. Joe Norris.

Guest Speaker Named for Baptist Services
Reverend Ed Larson, the Southwest area representative of the Conservative Baptist Foreign Missionary Society, is named as guest speaker for next Sunday's First Baptist Church service. He replaces Reverend M N Krug who will be away with a church group at summer camp in the San Bernardino Mountains. The visit supports the church's annual missionary budget during the mission emphasis Sunday. Reverend Larson began his current role this spring after prior pastoral work in Decatur Illinois and other cities, and he now resides in Long Beach.

Youths Attend Baptist Confab in Mountain Camp
Eighteen youths and 17 adults from the local First Baptist Church travel Saturday to Forest Home conference grounds in the San Bernardino Mountains for a week long Conservative Baptist Annual Conference. The event marks the first of two conferences for church youths with high schoolers meeting August 7 to 14.

Farm Education Highlights From Dooley and Garrison Classes
Dooley and Garrison led sophomore and freshman animal husbandry and agriculture studies with livestock feeds, breeding, marketing, soils, cotton, and farm records. Freshmen planted in hot beds, pruned orchards, vaccinated hogs and sheep, and learned farming trades in shop classes. The Shafter FFA chapter hosted events, fairs, and contests, while officers trained at East Bakersfield High School.

In Ai Bravo last Thursday Baptist Church nine beat B B I 16 to 7. Monday evening they returned with a 20 to 10 victory over Rio Bravo. Rio Bravo won 11 to 7 over Maple Farms. Al's Associated edged Central 22 to 21 then defeated Nort Camp 18 to 2. Buttonwillow lost 7 to 1 to North Camp and Monday Rio Bravo 11 to 7.
