Little Miss Shafter of 1959 Cindy Few greeted the town at the Shafter bus stop and received gifts from local merchants. Kingson at Food Banks Inc arranged Gerber cans, while Lou Bridges gave a $5 certificate and Johnson-Neuman Dept Store provided a white kid dress. Local shops and individuals contributed credits, certificates, and items for the baby and family, including a $10 furniture credit and a yearlong newspaper subscription.

Rotarians Hear Red Dale on California cattle business
Dale of Camp and Me ne Cattle Company spoke at the Rotary lunch about cattle operations. His firm processes about 35,000 head annually through feedlots and favors feeds such as beet pulp tops cotton seed pulp hay and potatoes with minerals and hormones. He cited distress in the market caused by Eastern beef and noted up to 80 cars of dressed beef could flood the area.
