International Evangelist to Visit Shafter Feb Eight Fifteen
Dr. Torrey Johnson famed evangelist and founder of Youth for Christ International will lead a Union evangelistic campaign in Shafter. The series runs February 8 to 15 at 7 p m Sundays and 7 30 p m weekdays at the Mennonite Brethren Church 400 Kern Street with Gospel singer Hilding Halverson. The event is sponsored by local churches and aims to lift community faith.

Mahon Beckman Retires From Local Post Office After 33 Years
Mahon Beckman retires this month after thirty three years in the Post Office Department. A dinner honoring him featured presentations from fellow employees and a certificate for Honored Service signed by General Summerfield. Beckman began his postal career on August 1 1953 in the Shafter Post Office and served in every department while pursuing stamp collecting and prospecting as hobbies.
