SHS Principal Evan Jones Dies After Long Service
Memorial services for Evan George Jones, longtime Shafter High School principal, will be held January 19 at 2 p.m. in the school auditorium. Jones, 53, led Shafter High since 1979 after six years as assistant principal, shaping programs, facilities, and community partnerships. He is survived by his wife Patricia, three sons, a daughter, and his memorial fund donations go to the Community Evangelical Congregational Church.

Woman Arrested After Attempted Murder Charge in Shafter
Lucille Rose Brown 40 of 220 Nickel Street Shafter was arrested Saturday night on attempted murder charges. She allegedly shot her common law husband Ray Charles Brown 54 in the abdomen and back with a .22 rifle. He is listed in stable condition at Kern Medical Center.

Fire at old storage shed triggers county chemical evacuation
Ten plus Shafter Wasco and McFarland fire crews respond to a Saturday chemical blaze at a Fresno and Manuel Avenues storage shed containing 250 pounds of insecticide 2000 pounds of sulfur and 80 gallons of paraquat herbicide. Evacuation limited to blocks around Manuel Sycamore Acacia Redwood. Authorities back flooded site and used air packs after assessing risks. Content losses total about 13 400 with the storage building at 45 000 and a nearby 10 by 20 foot structure at 900. Dennis Handel the owner faces ongoing investigations into the incident.
