A 14 year old Shafter boy, Jerry Kelley, was killed Sunday after a shotgun discharged while bird hunting with his brother Wesley Kelley and friend Phillip Taylor near Fresno Avenue Calloway canal. Jerry was freshman at Shafter High School and died at Kern Medical Center.

Richland School Board sets minimum days for tests
The Richland School District Board approved minimum testing days for Proficiency Standards at I JH on January 24 and at Primary on March 11. They also approved an auditor Elmer Fox from Westheimer and Company, a donation of an organ for the music department by Bruce Crawford and spouse, and staff changes including Peter Gomez as custodian, Shirley Heinke as substitute yard supervisor, Steve Nixon resignation as bus driver custodian, and Roberta Moore hired as half time nurse. A $6000 library fund request was approved for audio-visual materials and reading aids to aid reading scores. primary remedial case updates and curriculum communications were discussed.
