Fire damages roof at Elm Street residence
A Monday night fire heavily damaged the attic roof of a house at 447 Elm Street in Shafter. Five paid firefighters and 12 volunteers fought the blaze, keeping interior damage minimal aside from a collapsed ceiling near the origin. The roof will likely need replacement. Fire officials cite overheated duct or faulty wiring as possible causes. The home is owned by Mickey Hopkins of Bakersfield.

Seven Appear in Shafter Justice Court
