At Kern County Supervisors meeting in Bakersfield, Farm Bureau officers proclaimed Farm Organization Week for January 17 to 22. E G Buerkle and A Eckman presented the resolution. Leren Voth will head a membership drive aiming for 1800 families with 10 Farm Bureau centers backing the effort. More than 100 volunteers are expected to participate in the campaign kickoff at the Agricultural Building.
Funeral services for Charles Vinson McKenney 71 will be held today at 2 p m in the Mennonite Brethren Church. Rev Orval Seago will officiate with Shafter Funeral Home handling arrangements. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery. He lived at 136 Beth Eden Street and was active in the Nazarene church.
Shafter Generals edged Lindsay 34 to 32 after four late field goals by Gene Bryant. Lindsay forced overtime with a 26 all tie, Bergman and Paloma helped seal a 30 29 win for the locals. Bergman led Shafter with eight points, Sonoda had 11 for Lindsay.
A local Shafter firm released a free telephone directory listing residents and businesses. The publication, noted for providing the names and numbers of people in and around Shafter, aims to aid community communication and access to local contacts.

Five boys collect discarded toys at the station or where notices are left. Repaired toys will be distributed to needy children at Christmas.

Sharp's Studio, new to Shafter, is praised for its portrait work and the offer targets all readers with no age limit.
Shafter launches its annual March of Dimes campaign led by campaign chair Joe Frizzell to fund polio fight efforts amid record Kern County cases. Local schools theaters service clubs and youth groups join, with donations routed through a special bank account and collection centers around town.
Remains of Private William D. Hobbs and Private Waud L. Gott are enroute from overseas for burial. Hobbs 21 of Shafter was killed in action on Luzon May 9, 1944. his family details and survivors are listed. Gott, son of Mrs. Sarah E. Theis of Shafter, awaiting on arrival details, with funeral arrangements to be handled by Flickinger-Janzen Mortuary after repatriation.
James H. Quinn, Equalization Board member, spoke at a Rotary Club meeting. The event occurred at the Mo Canelo Motel with attendees including club members and local officials.
Ed DeMello presided over a 31 member meeting at Canelo Motel with committee lists prepared for Wesley Janzen as club secretary. The session reviewed 1949 standing committees led by Weidenbach and others, plus remarks on state tax board functions and district appointments.
