Shafter Man Killed in Grapevine Crash
D G Pendleton 34 manager of Haberfelder Ford died at Mercy hospital Bakersfield after a midnight crash four miles south of the Grapevine. Miss Olivene Wallace 19 of Bakersfield was killed. Odas Cox 27 and Mrs Lottie Willis 21 were injured. Pendleton and Cox were in the Pendleton car which struck an oil tanker and trailer. Willis was driving. Pendleton survived a shock to family. funeral plans await relatives.

Work Starts on Central Ave Shell Service Station
Work began this week on the new Shell service station at the corner of Central Avenue and James Street. W H Hitchcock is constructing it with Petti John and Haddican of Delano as contractors. Five men are employed and foundations and pumps are being laid with entrances from both streets. Built on the former Hitch cock Hotel site, the project aims for completion before bad weather, weather permitting.

Fire Destroys Davis Home West Of White Spot
A Tuesday evening fire destroyed the frame residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davis west of the White Spot. Loss is estimated around 80 dollars. Alarm at 6 30 p m. Local crew responded quickly but the house was a total loss before the truck arrived. A nearby building and the Davis car were also damaged.

Dog License Ordinance Adopted in Shafter
Shafter city council adopted Ordinance No. 25 requiring dog licensing and rabies vaccination prior to license issuance with a $1.50 fee. The measure takes effect in 30 days and violations are misdemeanor. City Clerk Frank Shaw urged immediate vaccination for all pets as a rabies control measure statewide. Separately the council granted a franchise to San Joaquin Light and Power for city electric service for an indefinite term.

Gins Operate In Shatter District Amid Mixed Weather
Gins in the Shatter district continued to operate this week turning out 292 bales for a season total of 14617. Camp West-Lowe led with 6345 bales, followed by D. O.
