Death Takes Western Pioneer Theodore F Bayless
Theodore F Bayless 86 longtime Shafter resident died Sunday at his home after weeks of illness. Funeral held Tuesday at Janzen Funeral Home with interment in Green Lawn Bakersfield. Survived by widow Mary, daughters Pearl Smith and a son Rex, plus Roy Rex J F and Debs in California. Bayless lived in Shafter 15 years after moving from Arkansas and held real estate work there. He edited the Shafter Progress, wrote poems for The Shafter Press and published a 1937 book on writing. Born July 11 1852 in Ozark Arkansas, he later spanned frontier life as a cowboy scout with Civil War veteran era exploits and wrote about frontier days. He married Mary E Trentham in 1888 and they had six children, five living. Last year the couple celebrated their golden anniversary.

Two Shafter residents deny intent to circulate dissolution petition
Two individuals named in the Notice of Intention to Circulate Petition for the dissolution of Shafter city declare they do not intend to circulate the measure. James F. Morrison and G C Skaggs provide affidavits stating signatures were given under misapprehension and that they oppose disincorporation. Morrison swears he would not have signed if aware of the petition's purpose.

Legion considers building for Scout meetings
Members of Leslie L. Robinson Post No. 213 of the American Legion discussed plans for a Boy Scout hall at a Monday Legion meeting. Commander J. H. McGrane said actual steps toward construction may come soon, with a community project approach and labor by volunteers. The rough hall would require a suitable site, not a grand structure. Funeral rites for S. L. Myrick held at Janzen Home
Funeral services were held for S. L. Myrick 73 at the Janzen Funeral Home with Rev. Edgar H. McAllister officiating. Interment followed in Shafter cemetery. Myrick, a Oklahoma native, died Monday morning at his home in North Shafter from a heart attack. He leaves three daughters Ana darko Oklahoma Vena Goettings and Edna Self and three sons S. L. Myricks D. F. Myrick and Berton Myrick, plus 27 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Water shutoff eyed at Union Oil 7-34 well
The 7-34 Union Oil well, completed last week in record time, faces a water shutoff to restore production. Water now accounts for about 22 percent of output. oil men suggest the western edge of the field may be near this well, possibly defining a field width of around three quarters of a mile.
