Doctor warns parents against giving aspirin to under eighteens
Kem County Director of Public Health Services Dr. Jinadu cautions that children and teens under eighteen should avoid aspirin during flu or flu like illness. Salicylates in aspirin can trigger Reye Syndrome, causing severe headache vomiting confusion and personality changes. Parents are advised to seek immediate medical care if persistent vomiting weakness or personality changes occur after a viral infection and to use acetaminophen instead. Flu season is underway with confirmed influenza A cases reported in California and across several states.
