In winter, a Young Artists appearance on KERO featured a pianist and soloist pair. Haag won Delano contest first prize, supporting a church piano project with prize money. Neufeld Auto Parts town basketball team to begin Wasco City league play Monday night at Wasco High gym. Elmer Anderson announces eight teams in the league with games at 7 and 8 pm. Neufeld plays Wasco News on January 10 and caps the schedule with Lost Hills on February 21.
Kern County health nurse Miss Laughlin gave an address on her duties and school child work from Lerdo to Maple. Jane Hahn presided at the American Legion Auxiliary meeting with a short business session and a note on the basket distribution to needy families.

Woollames receives a pen from the board. county clerk Veon previously presented a shotgun and gun case as gifts from Woollames’ supporters. A door prize pen and pencil set from Gunnarson's Jewelry Store is expected, with hot tea courtesy from Curley and Laura Tanksley of the Post Office Market.
George Dale, 67, of Stockton, was brought to the Shafter Fire Station suffering from acute asthma and revived sufficiently to be allowed to return to his temporary home a mile north of Shafter on the Central Valley Highway. He arrived at 11 p.m. by the Shafter Ambulance Service and received oxygen under direction in the station.
Shafter residents faced multiple collisions in the past week with serious injuries and a fatal crash. Dolphis J. Allen 68 was struck near Wasco at 1 30 a m and sent to Kern General Hospital in poor condition. A separate motorcycle car crash involved Sisco Spencer 53 and Cliftonham and caused the death of a 15 year old Shafter girl.
A 7 pound 8 ounce baby girl named for the Kattenhorn family was born at home. Mother and daughter remain in good health in Delano with Dassiee Chariton assisting in the delivery.
Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District officials debated existence of water set aside by the Reclamation Bureau. In 1945 the district requested 40,000 feet of first class water and 60,000 acre feet of second class water, but the Bureau said no allocation without a signed legal contract.(Board members sought a definite status update from the Central Valley Bureau in Sacramento.)
City notices remind property owners that cesspools must be eliminated and buildings must connect to the sewer system under Ordinance No. 70 adopted October 11, 1948. The deadline is January 11, 1949, and applications for permits are taken at City Hall today and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the South Government Camp auditorium for the infant son of Mr and Mrs Robert Cantrell. The family residence and other details appear garbled in text.
The Bakersfield Kern Bhatnee Kivette clubs held an installation dinner at the Bakersfield Inn. Hanley Witcher became President with Bert Ware as Vice-President and Ralph Tucker as Secretary. Outgoing officers were Jack Hill and Witcher.
Shafter City Fire Dept announces its annual banquet will be held next Thursday night at Shafter Motel. Fire Chief Melvin Parse says the event honors firefighters and their wives.

A Wasco woman received burns on her hands when a machine operated by Bryan near Wasco caught fire. He works for L. C. Taylor of Wasco and was using the machine at the time. Mrs. Bryan was treated by a Wasco doctor and sent home.
Eyraud, regional president of the San Joaquin Valley FFA, will join an executive gathering of regional presidents and state leaders at the Fresno Hotel. The meeting, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will cover all FFA activities in the San Joaquin Valley.
