Shafter arrests in car burglary ring case
Shafter Police arrested an adult, Jose Miguel Alvarez, 20, of Delano, and five juveniles after spotting a vehicle tied to local car burglaries. Investigators found burglary tools and stolen property from McFarland crimes. The group, led by Alvarez, hit multiple Northern Kern communities, breaking car windows and fleeing with items. Alcohol believed to be Cause of weekend crash
A 17 year old driver in a 1997 Acura on Stockdale Highway lost control while intoxicated after drifting into eastbound lanes. The car struck an irrigation ditch embankment and overturned several times. The front passenger suffered major head trauma and was airlifted to Kern Medical Center. both teens wore seatbelts. The driver was arrested for Felony DUI and booked at Juvenile Hall after medical clearance.

Sludge Ban Headed for Kern County Ballot in June
Senator Dean Florez announced that Kern County voters will decide in June 2006 on Keep Kern Clean’s initiative to ban land application of sewage sludge from Los Angeles Ventura and Orange counties. The effort gathered over 25 000 signatures, surpassing the 15 767 valid needed, and now moves to the Board of Supervisors for formal placement on the January 17 2006 agenda.

California teen driving law tightens restrictions with one-year wait
California expands teen driver limits under AB 1474. Teens must hold a license for one year before driving between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. or transporting younger passengers without an adult. The rule applies to those licensed after Jan 1 and to current teenagers with under one year since licensing.
