Public Address Systems Now on Patrol Cars
Highway Patrol cars now feature outside public address systems to address motorists during emergencies. About 200 cars are equipped with the system, with 300 more planned, mainly on Interstate 80 and U S 50 between Sacramento and the Nevada line. The system aids rapid information dissemination in storms and road conditions. A new siren sounding from high to low pitch will supplement the standard siren to grab driver attention.

Tinted Oranges Push Into Early Market Wave
Edison area fruit producers report deeply tinted oranges among the earliest ships. United Citrus Growers, via Harold Southwick, says about 400 cars will shipping in this period, with California expected to market 14 000 to 15 000 carloads this year, down from 24 000 last year. Demand is strong in Vancouver, Toronto, Portland, Cleveland, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Denver, due to high quality and early harvest. The Edison plant employs 75 to 80 people with a $600 000 payroll, underpinning local agricultural jobs.
