Estimates On Ground Level Storage Tanks For Shafter Board
The Shafter Public Utility Board asked Engineer A A Dorman to estimate costs for ground level storage tanks. A 500000 gallon tank cost about 750000 dollars and a 1000000 gallon tank costs about 92000 dollars more, while a 500000 gallon tank adds 82000. The board plans to replace the high rise tank with renovations costing around 25000 and may place one tank at the corporation yard with more later if growth warrants.

Bongberg Home Burglary Case Solved and Suspects Held
While Dr and Mrs Bongberg vacationed in Mexico their home was burgled three times. Items stolen included six guns old coins radios jewelry a stereo and a checkbook. Larry Mobley 18 was charged with a felony and released on bond 2200 after custodians at Lerdo School reported a box with Christmas wrapping and a paper bearing the Bongberg name. Three juveniles were arrested and later released to their parents for appearance when called.

City of Shafter Reaches Half settlement on telephone claim
Insurance carriers for Shafter agree to compromise Pacfic Telephone claim for 50 percent or 265.98. The dispute arose after telephone wires were cut in the alley near Lerdo Highway east of Shafter Avenue. City does not admit liability and company says settlement does not bind the insured.

Retires After 24 Years At Richfield Station In Shafter Avenue
W H Hill ends a 24 year tenure at his Richfield station on Central Valley Highway and Shafter Avenue with a retirement to take up fishing. He arrived in 1929 from Nashville and married Bessie Mae in Oklahoma the same year. The couple, with three children Randy L B Ellis Herbert, and seven grandchildren, plan more visits with relatives after Hill’s April 19 1944 start date with Richfield.

Burglars Chased From King Lumber Property
Shafter police on patrol at about 2 a.m. chased two burglars from the King Lumber property after seeing them near the site. The suspects fled, leaving several boxes of company stock. Officers did not capture them but reported promising leads and found more boxes under a nearby potato warehouse.
