Golder Wedding Anniversary Observed in Shafter
Mr. and Mrs. August Bender of 251 Atlantic Street Shafter marked their golden wedding anniversary with a Feb 16 family dinner and Feb 17 open house. They wed Feb 16 1913 in Lodi California and later moved to Shafter. The event featured a decorated farm banquet at the Crown Cafeteria Bakersfield and a Sunday open house at 381 EE Orange Street.

Auxiliary Collects 122 15 For Heart Fund Drive
The Heart Fund Drive on February 21 by the American Legion Auxiliary raised 122 dollars and 15 cents. Volunteers from Camp Fire, Shafter High School FFA and Key Club helped with badge sales and a door to door march in Shafter. Local businesses and Shafter Press aided the effort with appreciation expressed to Bob Ram of KWSO and others.

A Friday night performance at 7 30 at the Veterans Memorial hall features a wide slate of talent by the Union Congregational Church Young Married Couples Club. Carl Wells hosts with a 40 piece community orchestra and soloists Pat Anderson Dick Southwick and Sandra Nico. Proceeds benefit Friendship House migrant children.

District Auxiliary President Visits Shafter Unit
Visalia based officers Mrs Sharp Julia Walters and Juanita Tootles attended the Shafter unit with a briefing on filling out Girl Scout forms. The unit donated to the district poppy trophy fund. A ceremony and elections are planned at the Veteran Memorial Mall on March 16 with a district meeting in Earlimart on March 17. National Auxiliary president Mrs Ollie L will visit Bakersfield Post 26 in May with date to be announced.
