Local CBMC Plans Speaker Series with George Sanchez

The Christian Business Men's Committee announces a speakers series featuring George Sanchez. The meetings run Monday through Wednesday March 6-8 1967 at the Mennonite Brethren Church. Sanchez, a Navigators staff member, has Latin America outreach experience in Costa Rica and overseas director duties in Denver.

W L Smith Recuperating at Son's Home After Heart Attack

W L Smith retired Buttonwillow area farmer and former Farmers Cooperative Gin director, dismissed from Mercy Hospital Monday after a severe heart attack, recuperates at his son Robert's Madera Avenue home near Shafter. He helped organize the gin in 1937 and sold his Buttonwillow ranch, part to Robert and part to Guino Romanini.

Engine Missing From Automobile In Shafter

Billy Sutton told Shafter police that $587 worth of materials were stolen from his car while parked in Shafter. The missing items include the engine transmission and a 4 barrel carburetor. Police are investigating the case.

Four Schools Entered in Tractor Skills Event

The fourth annual Farm Machinery Field Day at Shafter High School Farm features a new Tractor Skills Contest for FFA members. Confirmed teams include Shafter High, Wasco High, Bakersfield High, and West High Bakersfield with at least four Kern County Vocational Agriculture departments entered. Money for One Way Trip to Las Vegas

A Richland Orchestra fundraiser reports progress on the On To Las Vegas project. Tuesday morning funds reached 1000 dollars toward a 2000 dollar need for return travel. Contributions include 150 from the Richland Teachers Club 350 from the Chamber of Commerce 100 from the Shafter Rotary Club and 350 from candy sales.

Local Woman Naturalized as U S Citizen in Kern County

Margrit Louise Mallory of 641 State Street Shafter was admitted to United States citizenship at a naturalization ceremony in Department One Kern County Superior Court. Formerly a German citizen she becomes a new American. Reuben Fraley and Art Penner contributed funds exceeding $1 000 for a charity event. Richland Orchestra will perform at a convention with East Bakersfield Choir and two other singing groups after being chosen from over 400 tapes submitted.

Richland High to Stage Charity Variety Show

A planned variety show at Richland High School Auditorium will raise funds for a lost photo project. The event will feature Richland Orchestra and local talent with donations collected via the Chamber of Commerce, Kelly and Somers, and the Richland District office.

Educational Television Proposal Presented to Richland School Board

The Richland Board of Trustees heard a detailed discussion on Educational or Public Television led by Dr. Cleon Caldwell and Verne Tucker. A station cost of 1.5 million dollars was cited to serve Bakersfield and eastern county, with 1 million people and 300,000 children in coverage. The board requested more detail and resolutions of support to aid fundraising and federal funds applications, but took no action.
