Progress Report on Shafter Potato Festival Plans
The Shafter Chamber of Commerce heard progress on the Potato Festival at a Friday noon meeting at Shafter Motel. President Bill Stoller presented a summary of staging progress for the annual festival to be held Saturday May 21 on the third Saturday of each May. Mrs. Mary Autrey Passes at 86
Mrs. Autrey, 86, longtime California resident, died February 18 in a Bakersfield hospital. Services were held February 19 at Flickinger-Janzen Mortuary with burial in Shafter Cemetery. Surviving are son Lewis Autrey and five daughters in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.

Teen-Agers Turn Out For Dance At Shafter Clubhouse
Over a hundred teens attended the monthly dance at the Woman's Club House in Shafter on Friday night. Bill Earley’s orchestra provided the music. Leslie L. Robinson Post 213 American Legion sponsored the event which awarded eight door prizes. Five prizes went to Wasco youths, and two basketball games were also played in the local gym. The Legion entertainment committee was led by N. F. Waymire with assistants Bob Raney and Gene Guenther, and many Legionnaires and wives acted as chaperones.
