Kern county establishes a 36500 acre potato goal as part of wartime food production. An A A A incentive payment of 50 cents per bushel will be paid on eligible acreage planted after February 1 1943 with yields between 90 and 110 percent of the goal. Growers may appeal adjustments by February 22 1943 and refunds depend on final farm goals meeting state war crop targets.
Kern county farmers with adaptable soil are urged to plant Irish potatoes to help the federal government meet the 1943 demand. Any farmer can set a farm goal by contacting the Agricultural Conservation association at 2405 M street Bakersfield. A recent Secretary of Agriculture provision offers payments for excess production up to 110 percent of the goal, with examples showing potential per acre payouts.
