Shafter residents prepare for a community-wide tin can drive on Saturday March 6. Volunteers from the Boy Scouts assist by flattening cans for collection and transport to Bakersfield loading bins before shipment to Arizona copper mines. Each 1.25 pounds of cans yields one pound of copper.

Luther Franklin Cornelius, 62, died at his home on Grant Street Sunday February 21. Born in Alabama on June 22, 1881 he lived in Shafter ten years. 200 Shafter Dogs Vaccinated In Rabies Campaign

The county health department reports 200 Shafter dogs were vaccinated and tagged this year at the Shafter clinic, compared with 82 in 1942. Total county vaccinations reached 4873 this year, up from 1788 last year, with 1942 estimates surpassing 3,000.
