City leaders approved moving forward with a fiber optics initiative. Council member Melissa Hill reported the Shafter City Council granted authorization to proceed, outlining next steps and timelines for implementation.
The Shafter Public Health Department lists February clinic dates at 329 Central Valley Highway. Family Planning and Pregnancy Screening clinics are on Feb 22, Immunization clinic on Feb 13, and a Senior Center health event on Feb 16. The Youth Folklorico marks its Decade of Dance show Feb 18 at Starrh Arts Auditorium with tickets at local outlets.
The Shafter Healthy Start program invites community members and partners to a February meeting on Wednesday the 15th from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Redwood Elementary School cafeteria. The Ballet Folklorico Shtotiani celebrates 10 years with a performance called Decade of Dance. Dancers aged 10 to 19, 12 members, include Jesus Garcia and Simon Garcia, with Brandi Root as director. The show is on Feb 18 at 7 p.m. in Shafter High School Starrh Auditorium. doors open 6:30 p.m.
Taft College Dental Program students transformed an Activity Center room into a dental clinic last Wednesday serving about 100 children from Redwood Golden Oak Sequoia Richland Migrant Pre K and School Readiness programs. Susan McCracken screened and applied sealants fluoride and cleanings while distributing goodie bags.
