Firemen Keep Fingers Crossed No Fires This Month Local firemen are keeping their fingers crossed as there has been no fire activity on the Shafter front for almost two weeks. The only action reported since the first of the month was the removal of a cat from a palm tree in the Reiker tract last Saturday night. The feline creature was keeping neighbors awake, so a county fire crew responded and rescued Tabby.

Kern County reported total agricultural income of 160.36 million dollars in 1947 led by cotton at 49.12 million from 147000 acres and 230186 bales. Victim Dies After Auto Crash Near Pond
Victor Milton Siemens died in a Delano hospital from injuries from a car wreck eight miles north of Pond on Central Valley Highway. A Kern Academy student, Siemens was returning from Pixley birthday party for his 18th. Services at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shafter, funeral arrangements by Robert L. Jones Mortuary Wasco.
