Master Plan for CVH Improvement Sought by Group
A Central Valley highway association last week requested a master plan for improvements to the CVH from here to Wasco. A three member committee appointed by President Clifton Clemens will meet state highway engineers to discuss a formal plan and other issues. The division of highways promised grade separations at the Highway 466 intersection and Kimberlina crossing, but no planning has begun for them. The 1958 program includes straightening curves on nine miles along the Santa Fe line north of Corcoran. A 1956 completion targets a 2.2 mile realignment.

Smoking in Bed Fatal to Millard F. Lewis in Local Apartment
Millard F. Lewis died Sunday afternoon from second degree burns and carbon monoxide poisoning after falling while smoking in bed at the Boyd Apartments. Found by W. F. Blattenberg, the room filled with smoke but no flame. coroner's jury attributed the death to this smoking incident. Lewis, who moved from Arizona six weeks earlier, had been living in the apartment about ten days and previously served time for a drunk driving conviction. He was a blacksmith with Ed's Equipment Company and his body was shipped to Arizona by Armstrong Mortuary.
