Former Press Publisher's Son Dies in Paso Robles
Funeral services were held for Herbert Lyle Comfort, 34, son of H. G. Comfort, former publisher of the Shafter Press. He died Tuesday morning in Paso Robles after a minor operation. A native of Geyserville, he lived in Shafter from 1935, worked with his father on the Press, ran a Western Auto store, and aided Cranston Printing Press in Paso Robles. He is survived by his parents, his widow, and his brother Don Comfort of Wallace, Idaho.

Theatres Raise 443 For March of Dimes Drive
Final returns from the Shafter March of Dimes drive are being computed by Mayor Joe Frizzell. Preliminary figures show the two local theatres collected 443.22 dollars during intermissions. Shafter Cub Scouts gathered over 111 dollars on a one day drive throughout town on a recent Saturday.

After two hours of deliberation the jury found Raymond A. Vigneau guilty of armed robbery and assault with intent to murder in the Fox theatre hold up near Bakersfield. The chase spanned Bakersfield Shafter Wasco ending east of Wasco with Officer Martin Baird shot in the leg. Melvin Bluhm pleaded guilty earlier and is at San Quentin.
