Public invited to visit Shafter museums with Jack Nikkel as Secretary and Bob Gaddie as Treasurer. Depot Museum and Harlin P Wilson Agricultural Museum open first Saturday each month 10 am to 2 pm and for special events or by appointment. Visitors welcome. call 746-1557 to join the Historical Society.
The Shafter Chamber of Commerce awarded Citizen of the Year Bill Prout and Business Award winner Larry Gargan among others. Prout, active in community and church work, praised by family, while Gargan, founder of Farm Pump & Irrigation, showcased his Traveling Water Screen and impact on water projects. The event included remarks from City Manager John Guinn and featured retiring board member Florez.
Bakersfield College will run spring short term classes for family child care. The Family Child Care Management course trains how to set up a home based child care business and covers discipline techniques. Completion also fulfills seven hours of safety training for licensing.
