A local Salvation Army volunteer delivered food and an invitation to a Christmas party to a family in need. At a gym the children found a grand tree and gifts, including a doll and a truck. Years later the girl, now grown, donates to food drives, remembering that season.
The Community Connection for Child Care sponsors Phone Friend after school help line. A new Phone Friend expands to reach Kern County including Shafter at 1-800-882-8855. Lines open 2 to 5 p.m. Judy helps volunteers at 375-0466. Funded by California Department of Social Services grant.
