Twelve Shafter Students Tour Mexico with Spanish Club
Twelve Shafter High School students in the Spanish Club, guided by instructor John Acosta, completed a three day trip to Mexico. They traveled from San Diego with visits to Tijuana and Ensenada, including a bullfight and jai alai match in Tijuana.

Shafter High School to Take Part in Career Day
Planning for Career Day at Bakersfield Civic Auditorium on February 25, 1970, will involve about 1,500 junior students from Shafter and other Kern County high schools. The event, now expanded to include real estate, marketing, data processing, forestry, advertising, accounting, geology, mechanics, petroleum, livestock and soils, is sponsored by the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce with Kern High School District and Bakersfield College assistance. Participants include students from Arvin, Bakersfield, Delano, East Bakersfield, Foothill, Garces, Kern Valley, McFarland, North, Shafter, South, Vista, Wasco and West high schools.

Shafter Resident Laura Fay Stewart Dies at 71
Funeral services were held for Laura Fay Stewart 71 of 18424 Scaroni Shafter who died Wednesday in a Bakersfield hospital. The service was conducted by Dr. John Allan Lavender at the Agee Family Funeral Home with burial at Shafter Memorial Park. She was born January 25 1898 in Bear Creek Missouri and married Clarence E. Stewart in 1916 in Texas. The family lived in Arizona before moving to Shafter in 1932. Survivors include Clarence, a daughter Novella Crumal of Northridge two brothers Armel Akins Samuel B. Akins and Elgin Akins a sister Wilma Bell two grandchildren and one great grandson.
