Shafter Key Club Boys Gather 6615 Pounds Of Food For Needy
Shafter High School Key Club members collected 6615 pounds of food aided by advisory rooms and service clubs. Project directed by Bill Hatcher saw top rooms accumulate hundreds of pounds each and store the donations at the SHS building for distribution Christmas Eve. Threat of grand theft noted after eight motors and tools were stolen from Shafter Marketing Co. overnight December 17.

Shafter Police Building Bid Bids Double 130000 Estimate
At the Shafter City Council meeting bids for the new Police Department building were opened. Dalke Bros. bid 258251 and Colombo Construction 266500, both well above the 130000 target. Council will consult City Attorney Mortimore and architects Alexander & Dorman before proceeding, with possible revenue sources to be explored. The project aims to finish in the summer of 1970 on Sunset avenue and Central Valley Highway. The current facility on Pacific avenue must be vacated for county use. Mortimore is recovering from major surgery and expected back in about two weeks.
