The City of Shafter invites merchants and taxpayers to view the new twenty six foot eight inch white fire truck at Shafter Fire Station. It pumps 1200 gallons per minute, carries 500 gallons water, 1200 feet of 2 inch hose and 600 feet of 1 inch hose. Features include smoke ejector, first aid equipment, forcible entry tools, salvage gear, safety devices, ladders, and a four man cab.
The Mennonite Brethren Church on Brethren Street presents a Youth Choir and orchestral Christmas program with songs such as Christmas Bells and On the Night When Jesus Came directed by Gloeckler. A Union Christmas service at Was co Mennonite Brethren Church at 10:00 a.m. on Christmas Day features Rev. Albert Reimer. The Song of Christmas by Roy Ringwald and Fred Waring arrangements closes with Church Choir at 7:00 p.m. December 27 led by Lowell Bergman with Elmer Unruh on organ and Barbara Wiens narrating.
Last Saturday Nite members of the Tri Club of McFarland traveled to McFarland hosted by Mrs. Ebling. Thirty young people attended the Christmas party enjoying home baked cookies sandwiches coffee and hot chocolate in a festive community gathering with hosts including Mr and Mrs Leon Ebling and Reverend Menno Schellenberg.

Funeral services were held at Armstrong Mortuary Chapel for Mrs. Hattie Lee Hampton of 29950 Orange Street, widow of Luther Hampton. Rev. Melvin Krug of First Baptist Church Shafter led the service. She died November 17 in Bakersfield Hospital. services were conducted November 20. She leaves five sons, two daughters, thirty one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Songs included Old Rugged Cross and Precious Memories.
Mr. James Moquist, chairman, asks Shafter area residents to return missed contributions for the Tuberculosis and Health Association Christmas Seals campaign. He notes 123 new TB cases reported by Kern County Health Department and urges use of seals on all cards and letters this year.
Shafter High School students Bette Tillman and Buddy Engel earned spots in the Robin Hood Band of Hollywood. They will travel to Los Angeles for a week of sightseeing rehearsals and events, marching in the Tournament of Roses parade on January 1 and attending the Rose Bowl.
