Miss Kern County to Be Miss Centennial 1966
The sixth annual Miss Kern County pageant will crown the Centennial Miss Kern County 1966 on Feb 26 at Harvey Auditorium. Gwen Sprouse of Ridgecrest is the current titleholder. past winners include Brenda Bird Delano Vicki Laverty Carol Anderson Shafter and Andrea Cummings Bakersfield. The Bakersfield Junior Chamber hosts the event, a franchised prelim to Miss California and Miss America. Contestants must be 18 by Labor Day and not over 28, unmarried. Talent counts 60 percent, evening gown 25 percent, and swimsuit 25 percent.

Gas Co Pays First Installment on 1965 66 Taxes
Southern California Gas Co. paid a first installment of $283 740.83 on Kern County property taxes for 1965 66. A B Newby division manager said the total for Kern County will be $567 480 77 after the April payment. The payments cover about 45 elementary classrooms and total $8.6 million across 11 counties. The firm's 1965 66 property taxes will near $17 million system wide.
