Utility Will Buy Valve Repair Plant at Shafter District
The Shafter Public Utility District board plans to install an altitude valve at the city water tower at about 1800 dollars and a Cla Val valve to regulate pressure. They also intend to spend 12 000 to 14 000 dollars at the sewage plant to replace a deteriorated floating dome gas collector, with a five to six month window for a new dome. Engineer A A Dorman noted a temporary fix may work. The board discussed water meters at industrial sites and a possible waste sewer line from potato sheds, awaiting a full survey. Discussion on meter policy was delayed by Dr Henry Voth’s absence. Director Dick Larson and Chairman A Kirschenmann supported meters. Voth objected. Clerk Bill Johnston said 34000 in bonds matured, suggesting 16000 be invested in savings certificates for six months. The board will hold about 67000 in working capital with other bonds due.
