Fog causes tractor trailer to hit train

A California crash left driver Luis Ramirez uninjured after his 2006 Peterbuilt tractor trailer struck a freight train in heavy fog at the Seventh Standard Road Santa Fe Way crossing. The trailer struck a stopped 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, pushing it into a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. Crawford sustained moderate injuries. other drivers unhurt. Roadway closed 7 to 10 am for scene clearance.

Holidays shine as Shafter police deliver seniors gifts

Shafter Police Captain Jeff Bell and Chaplain Dean Long delivered two bags of presents to Carmen Denis and her husband Jose on December 12 as part of the Santa to a Senior program. The department participated for the second year, with other seniors in Smith Corners also receiving gifts.

Minter Field Air Museum reopens after six month overhaul

The Minter Field Air Museum in Shafter reopened after a six month renovation that updated the building with new drywall ceilings wiring and a fresh paint job while adding a modern electrical system not seen in 50 years. General Jim Whitehead notes 90 percent of the wiring is complete and describes the collection including World War I artifacts a WASP uniform and a Navy manual from 1917. artifacts were stored off site during renovation and will take months to relocate as displays are reimagined with a new library room planned in the north wing.
