Shafter Post Office to Be Upgraded in Coming Months
Fifty years ago Shafter residents were told a new post office would arrive between now and June and that the facility would be elevated to first class after Jan 1. Postmaster George Guenther cited rising annual receipts, noting 1951 totals around 45 000 dollars and a Dec 19 tally of 42 962. He stressed that money in the till does not affect postal rank and added that Dec 17 saw over 40 000 pieces of mail processed for out of town destinations.
