At the 15th annual Kern County Potato Growers Association dinner in Bakersfield officers and directors were elected for 1959. New leaders include James N Maquist president and Albert Angus vice president with Sal Giumar ra as secretary treasurer and Francis P Pusateri as executive manager. Dr D B DeLoach discussed evolving marketing needs and a national self help program in cooperation with the US Department of Agriculture while Philip Crowell chaired the program. December 30 is the last day for filing nominating petitions for two SWID director vacancies to be decided February 3 1959. Petitions are available at the district office corner Kimberlina and Central Valley Highway. SWID reports continued water deliveries from the Friant Kern Canal through next week until storage is drained. No water has been released since November. current use relies on stored canal water.

Local Teacher Selected for South American Athletic Service
Tom Guerrero a Richland fifth grade teacher was chosen by the Educational Exchange Service to serve as an athletic specialist in four Latin American countries Chile Venezuela Guatemala and San Salvador. He will report to Washington in February before a three month assignment working with local leaders on athletic program development.
