Water banking deal links MWD Semitropic to store and share supplies
The agreement allows MWD to bank up to 350 000 acre-feet of state project water with Semitropic for future withdrawal. MWD may withdraw 30 000 to over 150 000 acre-feet annually, using Semitropic water, groundwater, or both to repay storage. SWSD receives 90 per acre-foot to store and 40 plus energy costs to withdraw, with 1.35 million advance financing repaid via storage payments. The Intertie Pipeline links Wasco storage to state and federal systems, enabling water transfers from Madera to Bakersfield, Sacramento, and San Diego, with a 3.5 million cost share at 2.8 percent over 20 years, targeting completion in April 1995.
