The Richland Teachers Association announces a tentative deal with Richland School District after days of bargaining and a strike authorization vote. The agreement includes a 7.5 percent salary increase retroactive to October 15 and preserves contract language, with the district planning to ratify at its next meeting.
The Shafter parade showcased a color guard Cub Scout Pack 213 and local groups including Bike Club with Mary’s family float, a Santa display by Central acy elves, a dragon Mustang by Ted Wied, and Terry Payne presenting the Stock Market horses. A robot car delighted crowds while Deputy Sheriff Richard rode in a Carriage, and a Nobel Howze Farms rider led the procession. The day promoted donation to less fortunate and a decoration contest by the Shafter Recreation Park District. See page 2 for details.
The Shafter City Council, in a December 2 special meeting at City Hall, reelected Don Zachary as mayor and Cathy Prout as mayor pro tem. Incumbents Beri Dokeesnabianet and Bernice Atkinson were also re-elected. New Police Sergeant Gary Knox was introduced.
