Extended hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. begin Friday in Shafter for the Christmas season, with 6 p.m. closing on December 24 and normal hours returning December 26. Merchants Division urges operators and employees to park away from the downtown area to keep parking space open for shoppers during the rush. General Fund Healthy Inflow In First Four Months of 1969 70
Sacramento reports the 1969 70 State General Fund remains cash strong through October. Revenue receipts hit 122 197 849 higher than a year earlier while cash in treasury stood at 20 621 833 compared with 5 206 552 last year and there is no unrepaid borrowing from the special fund versus 174 000 000 last year. Expenditures rose to 1 341 242 323 ahead of receipts by 254 352 064, a smaller gap than last year. Major revenue came from retail sales and use taxes 549 294 873 personal income tax 197 619 290 and bank and car taxes.

Richland Elementary School will offer free TB tests for pupils in the first and eighth grades along with migrant and special classes. Tests are voluntary and run through Kern County Health Department with Dr. Mary Gandy administering. Parents must return signed permission forms to qualify. reports will be mailed. Richland was chosen due to Kern County's high priority status in California and the district approved the immunization program.
