Funeral Today For Mrs. Phoebe Ella Little

Mrs. Phoebe Ella Little 58 wife of Ben Little died at her Fresno Avenue home near Shafter on Saturday December 4. Funeral services conducted by Elder R Garretson of the Church of Christ Fowler will be at Flickinger Janzen Mortuary at 10 am followed by interment at Shafter Cemetery. She was born in Polk County Arkansas August 17 to Delano Troy Lompoc Ver lon Pomona Winford Bakersfield and leaves three daughters Mrs Robert Mixom Mrs Richard Keane a brother Silas Johnson and a sister Mrs W H Holmes Oklahoma City. Funeral Rites Held For Penner Infant

Funeral services for Peggy Sue Penner infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Delmer R Penner were held at Shafter Funeral Home. Born October 11 1948 the infant died of natural causes in Kern General Hospital last Friday. Survivors include the parents a brother Don two sisters Geraldean and Shirl and the grandparents Sam Penner and Mr and Mrs Jim Davis. Rev B E Andrews officiated and burial was in Shafter Cemetery.

Teen-Age Dance Planned Friday by Legion Post

The second Teen-Age dance sponsored by Leslie L. Robinson Post No. 213 American Legion is set for Friday evening December 10. It will run from 8 to 12 at the Woman's Club house with Central Hardware Co providing the venue and Grapette Company supplying soft drinks. Hanley Witcher, a local police officer, will supervise the door and oversee floor activities.

Local Legion to Meet War Dead Flud at Santa Fe Depot

The local Légionnaires will meet Flud’s remains on the southbound train at the Santa Fe depot at 6 47 p m. Flud, a Shafter resident, died at 22 from enemy sniper fire in the Italian campaign on September 17 1944. A graveside service will be held tomorrow at 2 o’clock in Shafter Cemetery, Rev Sam Wilcoxon officiating. Surviving are eight brothers and two sisters.

Prep Basketball Carnival Slated at Taft

The event moves to Taft for a two game night featuring Bakersfield and Madera rivals in two complete games. Each team plays a full quarter, trophies awarded for most points and best defense, plus officials clinic for the winter schedule. Six life like electrically operated dental models are on display in the Shafter High School gym as part of a health education program. The exhibit traces tooth care from first teeth to six year molars and runs through Thursday. School officials invite all parents to view the displays each evening this week.

Badges Awarded To Cub Scouts at Thursday Pack Meeting

Cub Pack No. 13 held a meeting in the Richland Cafeteria where H. W. Pat Kelly spoke on cub scout activities and responsibility. Ed Brown led the session as cubmaster and several boys earned badges including Webelos Dennis Bledsoe, Wolf Dennis, Bear James Waymire, and others. Parents helped craft items such as waste baskets and book cases displayed by the cubs. Den mothers include Mesdames C. J. Vignolo and Bill Brown.

Relief Rolls In Kern Co Climb

Kern county aged aid rolls rose to 3 159 in October from 3 123 in September and 2 762 a year earlier, per California Taxpayers Association. October aid cost 194 553 vs 179 419 in September and 158 606 in October 1947. Statewide aged aid increased by up to 5 a month on October 1 to a top of 60 65.
