SHS boys cross country team wins Division IV Central Section

The Shafter High School boys cross country squad won the 1996 Division IV Central Section Championship at Avocado Lake near Sanger with a 30 team score. Alex Gomez and Matt Neufeld led the way finishing first and third as Yosemite, Exeter trailed.

California sport fishing license fees for 1997

The Department of Fish and Game released 1997 sport fishing license fees effective January 1 to December 31. Prices include annual resident 26.50 and nonresident 71.95, one day Pacific Ocean licenses 6.60 with ocean enhancement, second rod stamp 8.40, ocean enhancement annual 2.65, salmon punch card 1.05, steelhead report card 3.15, and various duplicates and passes ranging from 3 to 14.45 dollars.
