Shafter Moves to Annex 6 Square Miles South of City
LAFCO approved Shafter sphere of influence enabling a two step plan toward annexing about 6 square miles south of the current limit. City Manager Wade McKinney notes the first step is modifying the sphere, with the second step the actual annexation. The land includes the Foreign Trade Zone with tax advantages and supports industrial development while preserving nearby agricultural land. Public hearings are expected January or February prior to annexation.
