Cotton farmers to vote Tuesday on price support
Cotton farmers in Shafter and surrounding areas will vote December 10 in a nationwide referendum on cotton quota penalties and the continued price support program. If two thirds approve, price support for the 1958 upland cotton crop will run 75 to 90 percent of parity with quota penalties for excess. If fewer than a third approve, no penalties and support drops to 50 percent. All 1957 upland cotton producers vote 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Shafter.
