Laidlaw seeks permit expansion and waste plans in Kern County
In 1991 LES asked the Kern County Board of Supervisors to modify a Class 3 permit to expand operations about tenfold and extend the landfill to 90 acres. They seek state and federal clearance to accept hazardous waste and store agricultural pesticides and household hazardous waste until shipment to other LES facilities. Community concerns focus on groundwater risk and proximity to the California Aqueduct.
