California requires exit exam for graduation and 5 percent of class of 2011 statewide could not graduate. Shafter High School posts the district’s lowest CAHSEE pass rates with 67 percent in Mathematics and 71 percent in English Language Arts, amid broader district disparities and high Hispanic enrollment.
After months of preparation the Shafter Vision 2011 facilitators released a draft for public review before it goes to the City Council as early as September 6. The plan, led by Dr. David Franz and Scott Hurlbert, narrows the 1996 vision to specific downtown, economic development goals.
Kern County's Minter Field Air Museum welcomed Kern Seventh Day Adventist School students for a hands on tour of World War I and II relics plus the NASA era exhibit. Volunteers highlighted free tours and local aviation history. The museum fundraisers at the Kern County Gun Show raffled a vintage MIA Carbine and a Valor Quilt to support operations.
