Five Arrested In Armed Robbery Of Rite Aid
Deputies stopped a vehicle near Highway 46 and Griffith Avenue after a robbery at a local Rite Aid. Five suspects including Tiesha Todd Kiesha Moore Shanice Morgan and a 17 year old female were detained and charged with Armed Robbery Criminal Conspiracy. Langston faces additional gang related charges. Property valued at about 800 dollars was recovered. The juvenile was placed in Juvenile Hall while the others were taken to Central Receiving Facility.

Kern County Superintendent of Schools seeks volunteers to coach second graders in the Kern County Community Reading Project funded in part by United Way. Volunteers attend a two hour training, then coach four students 15 minutes daily once a week for a semester, with fall and spring terms September to December and January to May.

FIELD orientation marks start of new Charter High School program
FIELD opened its charter high school with orientations in Arvin and Shafter as more than 100 rural Kern County residents began study. Founded by Cesar Chavez in 1978, FIELD provides ESL college pathways and a re entry diploma program for 18 to 25 year olds, with campuses in Arvin, Shafter, Tehachapi, Wasco, California City, McFarland, Gridley and other Kern sites.
