Cowboy Cliff McGraw Remembered In Shafter Legacy
Cliff McGraw a lifelong Shafter resident known as Cowboy led a varied life. He operated as a Farm Labor Contractor and produced the Shafter Potato Festival and Rodeo in 1949. After Army service ending 1937 he worked as a stunt double in California and later became Bear Mountain Ranch top hand. He died August 20 2003 in Bakersfield leaving a storied ranching and rodeo footprint.

One officer serves on Cal Met while the department maintains 1.4 officers per 1000 residents. Incidents rose from 5 643 in 2000 to a projected 9 166 in 2003 with 5 347 already recorded.
