The Shafter community met 14 new public school staff at a Kiwanis luncheon. Garza will teach history at Shafter High School after studies at Vista East High and CSU Bakersfield, with three years of substitute and long term teaching in Bakersfield. He is married with two children and enjoys traditional Mexican music. Esmeralda Flores, a Wasco graduate, earned an AA in Liberal Arts at Bakersfield College and a BA in Spanish with a minor in English from CSU Bakersfield.
