Fifteen year old Gonzales of Shall of Shomer High School spent summer training across California. He placed third in his division and 24th overall at the Bass Lake half marathon of 126 runners. Earlier he finished 10th in his division and 25th overall at Mammoth 10K among 430 runners.
Bakersfield College Alumni Association hosts its annual steak feed at Kern County Golf Course picnic grounds to fund BC men’s and women’s athletics. 1980 Renegade football squad will be introduced by Gerry Collis and staff. Social hour at 6:30 p.m. introductions at 7, dinner at 7:30. Tickets $12.50 from BC business office, alumni board, or at the door.
The Shafter High School Booster Club hosts a hamburger feed on Friday September 12 in conjunction with a SHS football scrimmage against South High. Meals cost 3.50 per person to support all SHS sports as Kern District funds shrink. Booster Club invites new members to a meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at SHS.
The second annual Bal angee free-form co-ed slow pitch tournament will be held in Wasco on August 30 and 31. Entry fee is 100 dollars, checks payable to Charles Santillan. The event uses a round robin format with 16 teams and caps at 15 players per team. Awards include First Place Sponsor and Individual, plus second through fourth place sponsor and most valuable male and female.
