Recommendation to build overpass at grade crossing

A local shooting incident led to three Shafter residents appearing in Judge EB E. Grant's township court. Clara Davis, 36, received a 90 day suspended sentence for disturbing the peace amid a dispute with her husband, who was fined 25 dollars for intoxication. Warren Earl Beddo, 488 West Marengo, drew a 30 day suspended sentence. Davis allegedly obtained a pistol during an argument. when Beddo tried to restrain her, a struggle left Beddo with a gunshot wound to the right index finger.

Crop Duster Crash Lands Near Fresno Field
Don Dyer 32 piloted a 450 horsepower Stearman spray plane from Inland Crop Dusters Inc. It lost its propeller over the Lachenmaier ranch area and parts damaged a barn roof as it crash landed near A Co Eckman’s cotton field. Dyer escaped injury. CAA Fresno probes the accident.

Cotton Field Scale Tests Set Tuesday
Deputy sealers from the Kern County Department of Weights and Measures will test cotton growers and cotton picking contractors field scales Tuesday. Growers are urged to bring scales to the gins to be checked, saving them travel to Bakersfield. State law requires annual tests. tests at the gins are preferred.

Ted Vignolo a Shafter rancher and his son Robert fought a would be thief at a Capistrano Beach vacation home. The intruder fled in a vehicle after a chase ending with Vignolo suffering a broken left leg and left arm along with bruises and the man was later taken into custody amid parole violation claims.

Early Pioneer John Peterson Dies Aged 88 In Shafter
John Henry Peterson 88, early Shafter settler and farmer, died at a rest home last Sunday. Funeralheld Tuesday at Armstrong Mortuary with Masonic graveside rites at Shafter Cemetery. He arrived in California 61 years ago after moving from Iowa and Sweden, and lived on a 40 acre farm near the Adventist Church. Survived by his wife Anna Goble Peterson and three children Floyd E Peterson Gladys Roe and Edith Jumper, plus six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Married 56 years ago June 1.

City council agreed to let two policies covering the new city hall be held by Shafter insurance firms.
