Death by own action established in Hager inquest
John C. Hager, 44, is ruled to have killed himself with a .38 revolver in a cabin behind 240 Pacific St. The inquest at Shafter Police Station Saturday morning noted a full shell box near the body and that a five shell purchase was attempted. Hager’s estranged wife Stella and son John C. Jr. are in Oxnard. burial will be in Roanoke, Virginia.

Reservists Return From 15 Day Training Stint
Kern County reservists from Bakersfield and Shafter completed a 15 day program at Oakland Army Base focusing on transportation ordnance and artillery. The training highlighted helicopter cargo uses and rifle firing with 95 students from nine reserve schools in California and Arizona. The Bakersfield staff praised the program and planned a fourth year of armory training starting September 9.
