Kern Seventh-day Adventist School Offers Grades One Through Six
The Kern Seventh-day Adventist School in Shafter will again offer academic work for grades first through sixth in a Christian setting on Riverside and Poplar streets. The 72-year-old school emphasizes a family-like atmosphere with older students mentoring younger ones, fostering character and academic growth. Enrollment information can be obtained from principal Mrs. Melva Perry at 746-4467 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. School starts on Aug. 29.

Richland School District Registration Dates Set
Richland registration for the upcoming fall term will be held August 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the primary, intermediate, and junior high offices. Enrollment eligibility covers Shafter area children within district boundaries born on or before December 1, 1983.

Immunization records required for school entry in Kern County
Shafter students returning to school must carry a written immunization record showing month and year for each vaccine dose. The Kern County Health Department lists required vaccines for under 18, including polio, a diphtheria tetanus pertussis series, and measles mumps rubella. An immunization clinic is set for Sept. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the County Building, 336 Pacific, with vaccine availability and consent forms for persons under 18.

Puppet Show Draws Crowd at Shafter Library
Shafter Branch Library hosted an all ages puppet show with Barbra Swanson the Kern County Library System coordinator. Swanson performed 45 minutes attracting a standing room only crowd and engaged children with stories including Willy O Dire The Three Wishes and Who Took The Farmer's Hat. Children then crafted their own paper sack puppets under supervision.
