The Church of God hosts a rally at Buttonwillow Park on Highway 58 in Buttonwillow Saturday August 20 from 6 to 9 PM. Attendees can hear bands and speakers including Second Wind Mary de Leon Calvin McGee Eternity Westside Puppets Praise Voices of Love BW Pentecostal Church. Teen Challenge will send four speakers including Anthony Gonzales and Mike Quary. No charge and attendees should bring lawn chairs and refreshments.

Road project begins on Lerdo Highway resurfacing
The $152000 Lerdo Highway resurfacing from Central Valley to South Wall Street starts with milling three inches of old asphalt. The project costs about 60 cents per square foot, far cheaper than full asphalt at $2.25. The street should last about 415 years after a seven day cure and a two inch overlay. A few spots will need completely new asphalt, says Guinn. North Shafter Avenue from Lerdo Highway to Central Valley Highway will receive identical treatment.
